Division of Surgical Research

The Division of Surgical Research offers superior bench-to-bedside preparation for residents, graduate students and post-docs.

Our core research focuses on the multiple aspects of trauma and inflammation.

Training opportunities within the Division include the NIH-sponsored Trauma and Inflammation Research Training Fellowship, the Armand D. Versaci Research Scholar in Surgical Sciences Award, as well as various internships and research assistant positions.

Research at the Division of Surgical Research is centered in laboratories located at R. I. Hospital in the Nursing Arts, Middle House and Aldrich buildings.  These facilities comprise 16,783 square feet of contiguous space including 11,807 square feet of laboratory space.  The remaining space contains offices for the investigators, trainees and secretaries, as well as a conference room/library and sterilization facility.

Dr. Jorge E. Albina is Director of the Division of Surgical Research and also serves as Director of the Nutritional Support Service for Rhode Island Hospital.
